NaNoWriMo begins tomorrow.  I am still wicked unprepared, but I’m going to try to do as much research as I can tonight, at least for what I need for the beginning of my book.  (Read: weather statistics, storms, recorded events, that kind of thing.)  I wanted to try and take an extra day off of work each week specifically for ‘catch-up’ writing for the month of November, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.  I know I’m not going to be able to write 1’667 words every. single. day.  It isn’t going to be like it was in 2010 when I actually ‘won’.  I’m working now, 30+ hours a week.  I live in a house with distractions, and I have wifely and familial obligations to attend to.  I have serious doubts about whether or not I’ll reach 50k words by November 30th, but I’m going to give it my all.

I’m going to need some extra motivation this year that I didn’t need last time.  I’m not even sure if I know anyone who is participating in NaNoWriMo this year (note to self: ask on the Facebook), and having writing buddies is really helpful because they keep me on track.  I’ve found that a little bit of competition for word count is healthy, as is having someone to bounce questions off of.  IHAVEREADTHISTENTHOUSANDTIMESOMGDOESITMAKESENSE??? or even just questions about believability and other writerly questions.¹

So I guess I’m asking – Are any of you (if there is even anyone out there reading this) participating in NaNoWriMo?  Are you signed up with the website?  Do you want to be my writing buddy?  There’s a button on my sidebar over there   —————>  that is linked to my NaNo profile.  BE MY BUDDY.  Please.  But only if you’re taking it seriously, because I totally am this year.

1.  Let’s not get into how many words are not actual words in this blog post.
